Lying on the eastern part of the Indochinese peninsula, Vietnam is a strip of land shaped like the letter 'S'. China borders it to the north, Laos and Cambodia to the west, the East Sea to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the east and south. The country's total length from north to south is 1,650km. Vietnam's territory consists mainly of mountains and hills and 3000km of coast line. At the beginning of the Bronze Age, the Viet tribe groups had settled down in the North and in the north of Central Vietnam. Vietnamese culture has always evolved on the basis of the wet rice civilization. Thus, the lifestyle of the Vietnamese population is closely related to its village and native lands.
